Artist Statement

My artwork is a series of photographs that invite you to take a closer look at the personalities of subjects you might not ordinarily notice right away. They invoke determination, curiosity, playfulness, innocence, and sensuality. I am a quiet, shy person, and find it difficult to show all the inner emotions that go through me at any given time. I think the same can be said for many of the animals and people I photograph. I capture the brief moments they shine through on film so that they can be admired, giving myself a voice, I do not feel I have in the day to day life.

 

My capstone project consists of eight 8x10 photographs with a central larger image, set in a compass face formation. There are four animals and four people with myself at the center. Each cardinal direction points to a person with the ordinal directions pointing to animals.
