In-Depth Sculpture Studies
by Nicole Rogers
Artist Statement
Never having been able to successfully create sculptures of my own, the works of those who mastered the practice have always held my attention and admiration. Taking such works and capturing them in both paint and charcoal, at which I am more adept, feels like a way to better understand that which evades me in the three-dimensional art form. By doing so, I narrow down multifaceted pieces and capture my perspective, both in view and style. I am further drawn to the subjects as they are not only molded by the artist, but by their lighting and environment – and through such, I deepen my understanding of the way the form is revealed in light and shadow.
