Emily Dallaire

Artist Statement

My work explores the nature of movement within the human body in relation to the static space it occupies. The pieces focus on how changing human form interacts with fixed spatial shapes, thus exploring how the living individual and the singular spaces they occupy compose the elemental building blocks of society yet are simultaneously more than the sum of their individualness. By using a variety of mediums, such as charcoal, pastel, and watercolor, each piece stands alone, yet they are still connected by the central idea that within each composition human forms interact with their own spaces. By interacting together in a single exhibition, the pieces display the synchronized societal body that is humanity.
