Artist Statement

My Capstone exhibition consists of a series of still lifes that use varied reflective items, fabrics, and flowers. I have always loved drawing these objects and in particular, focusing on the small intricate details within a composition that make a drawing come alive. With a focused view and dramatic lighting, I can show the beauty and imperfections that can be found within simple objects.

There are three 15”x 20” pieces and four 11”x 15” pieces in the series using charcoal, and Conte pencils. I am familiar with these mediums, but I enjoy the challenge each brings to every piece I draw. These mediums allow me to work freely while continually pushing me to observe every aspect of the creation of each composition.
